Is GTA 6 Based on Florida?

Rockstar uses the fictional state name Leonida rather than Florida, but the environmental storytelling — subtropical coast, keys, swamps, highway culture, and Miami-esque metropolis — makes the inspiration unmistakable. This is editorial analysis based on official trailers, not a Rockstar statement that Leonida equals Florida.

Vice City and Miami

Vice City's Art Deco beachfront, glass downtown towers, and palm-lined causeways mirror Miami and Miami Beach. Ocean Drive-style architecture appears in Trailer 1. Brickell-like skylines dominate urban shots. Vice City is the strongest real-life parallel in the entire game.

Leonida and Florida

At state scale, Leonida functions like Florida: peninsula geography, coastal cities, interior wetlands, and an overseas highway to islands. Port Gellhorn may reference Panama City or similar Gulf communities. Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga are harder to pin to specific real places.

Beaches and Coastal Locations

Trailer footage shows Atlantic beaches, marina districts, and luxury waterfront homes comparable to South Florida's Gold Coast. Vice Beach and coastal highways in our database track these official scenes.

Keys and Island Locations

The Leonida Keys are named in official Trailer 2 and show causeway driving, stilt houses, and island communities — direct parallels to the Florida Keys and U.S. Highway 1 overseas route.

Wetlands and Swamps

Grassrivers and Leonida Wetlands footage show airboats, mangroves, and murky waterways reminiscent of the Everglades. Rockstar named Grassrivers officially; wetland sub-zones are classified as likely based on visuals.

Highways, Bridges, and Urban Landmarks

Multi-lane highways, suspension bridges, and causeways feature heavily in Trailer 2. Real Florida parallels include I-95, the Florida Turnpike, and the Seven Mile Bridge. GTA 6's highway system is confirmed visually but not officially named.
