Leonida is the state-level setting for Grand Theft Auto VI — a fictional U.S. state that frames Vice City and dozens of surrounding communities, highways, wetlands, and islands. This guide maps every named Leonida region from official Rockstar materials.
What Is Leonida?
Rockstar introduced Leonida in the December 2023 GTA VI reveal as the state containing modern-day Vice City. Trailer 2 (May 2024) dramatically expanded our view of Leonida by naming Port Gellhorn, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga, and the Leonida Keys — confirming a multi-biome open world designed for cross-state travel.
Is Leonida Based on Florida?
While Rockstar uses fictional names, the parallels are deliberate: a Miami-style metropolis, Keys-like islands, Everglades-style wetlands, and Gulf/Atlantic port towns. We describe these as "possible inspirations" unless Rockstar confirms them directly. See our real-life locations comparison.

Leonida vs Florida Inspirations
Vice City occupies the southeast coast role that Miami plays in Florida. The Leonida Keys mirror the Overseas Highway and island chain geography. Grassrivers and wetland footage evoke the Everglades. Port Gellhorn resembles smaller industrial port cities along Florida's coasts. Mount Kalaga adds elevation uncommon in real Florida — likely a gameplay and visual variety choice rather than a direct geographic copy.
