GTA 6 Wildlife and Alligators
Updated · 2 min read
Short answer: GTA 6 has more than 170 animal species, according to Game Informer's September 2026 cover story, and alligators are the stars. They show up in Trailer 1 being hauled out of a backyard pool and walking into a convenience store, and Rockstar calls them Grassrivers' most famous attraction. Other confirmed animals include flamingos, manatees, pelicans, iguanas, macaques, deer and mountain lions.

How many animals are in GTA 6?
Game Informer reports more than 170 species across land, air and sea, several of them new to Rockstar games, including more than 60 kinds of bird and over 30 land mammals. Some are rated Rare, Discoverable or Legendary, and Rockstar is keeping those secret until launch. Florida's invasive species are in too: green iguanas, cane toads, feral cats and rhesus macaques.
Where are the alligators in GTA 6?
Mostly in Grassrivers, Leonida's Everglades. Rockstar: "The gators may be the most famous attraction, but there are far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries among the mangroves." Game Informer's screenshots show alligators under a swamp dock. Like in Florida, they don't stay in the swamp: Trailer 1's backyard pool and convenience-store scenes are in town. Good places to start looking once the game is out: the Grassrivers Visitor Center and the boat ramps around Watson Bay. Rockstar has also shown airboats, the classic way into the swamp.

Can you hunt and fish in GTA 6?
Yes. Rockstar says Mount Kalaga "offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails", with deer and mountain lions to hunt, and told Game Informer about bass fishing. From launch day, hunting areas and fishing spots get their own pages here as soon as they're confirmed in the game.
Are there sharks and whales?
According to Game Informer's coverage, the sea has sharks, whales, rays, turtles and jellyfish. The Leonida Keys, where Rockstar mentions scuba diving among giant turtles, are the obvious place to look.
