GTA 6 file size and pre-load
Updated · 3 min read
GTA 6 is a reported 210 GB download on PS5. The figure comes from PlayStation Store data, posted on October 27, 2026 by the data-mining account PlayStation Game Size and corroborated by Insider Gaming. Rockstar hasn't confirmed it, the store pages still show no size, and there's no Xbox Series X|S figure yet. What is official: digital pre-load opens November 12, 2026, a week before the November 19 launch, and every copy is a download, even the boxed one. We'll update this page when Rockstar or the stores list a size.
Updated Nov 3, 2026: added the reported 210 GB PS5 size and the store-listed unlock times. Oct 15, 2026: first version.
How many GB is GTA 6?
About 210 GB on PS5, reportedly. Here's what's going around and how much to trust it:

The account behind the 210 GB figure reads sizes from PlayStation's servers and has called other games' sizes before launch. A day-one patch could still add to it.
For context, Rockstar says it's the biggest it has made and "around twice the size" of GTA V's. See how big the GTA 6 map is. Plan for a very large download.
When does GTA 6 pre-load start?
November 12, 2026, according to the Rockstar Store: "Pre-load begins November 12, 2026". Rockstar has given the date but no start time. Pre-load is for digital copies bought or pre-ordered from the console stores, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What time does GTA 6 unlock?
Rockstar hasn't announced unlock times. PlayStation Store listings show a regional rollout: each region unlocks at midnight in its main time zone, starting with New Zealand at 11:00 UTC on November 18 and ending at 06:00 UTC on November 19. In the US that's midnight Eastern (05:00 UTC) on November 19, which is 9 pm Pacific on November 18. There's no Xbox schedule yet, and store times can change before launch.
Does the physical copy need a download?
Yes. The boxed edition holds a download code, not a disc, so the whole game downloads either way. If your internet is slow, pre-loading from November 12 is the way to play on day one.
How much space should I free up?
If the 210 GB figure holds, free up about 250 GB to cover the game plus a day-one patch. That's a precaution, not a number from Rockstar. Consoles with smaller drives, like the Xbox Series S, may need space cleared or extra storage.
Is the Ultimate Edition a bigger download?
Probably slightly, for its extra content, but there's no figure. Its bonuses are mostly access to places that are in the world anyway, like Rideout Customs and Stock 305 in Vice City. See GTA 6 Ultimate Edition.
What's in all those gigabytes?
The whole state of Leonida: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga, with more than 170 animal species and the radio stations and podcasts. You can explore it before the download finishes on our map.
