GTA 6 fishing and hunting
Updated · 3 min read
Yes, GTA 6 has fishing and hunting. Rockstar says Mount Kalaga "offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails", Game Informer mentions bass fishing, and the trailers show Jason fishing with his friend Cal in the Keys. The Ultimate Edition even includes a boat, the Shitzu Squalo, for fishing in Gambit Bay. Exact fishing spots and rewards aren't public yet; below is everything that is, and where the water is on our map.
Updated Oct 15, 2026: first version.
Can you fish in GTA 6?
Yes. Four official sources mention it:
- Rockstar's Mount Kalaga copy: "prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails".
- Game Informer's cover story (September 2026): bass fishing.
- The trailers: Jason fishing with Cal Hampton in the Leonida Keys.
- The Ultimate Edition: the Shitzu Squalo, "docked at Washington Beach" and used "for fishing in Gambit Bay".
How fishing plays (rods, bait, minigames, selling fish) hasn't been shown. GTA V had no fishing activity, so this is new for the series' modern games. Red Dead Redemption 2 had it.
Where can you fish in GTA 6?
Rockstar has named three places. Then there's all the water the map shows:
| Spot |
Water |
Why |
| Mount Kalaga |
Lakes and rivers in the north |
Rockstar names it for fishing |
| Gambit Bay |
Coastal bay |
The Ultimate Edition's fishing boat goes here; not placed yet |
| Leonida Keys |
Sea flats and channels |
Jason and Cal fish here in the trailers |
| Lake Leonida |
Big inland lake (Lake Okeechobee) |
The real lake is famous for bass |
| Grassrivers |
Wetlands and mangroves |
Everglades-style backwater |
| Emerald Springs |
Freshwater spring (Crystal River) |
Clear inland water |
| Catalan Bay |
Biscayne Bay stand-in off Vice City |
Big sheltered bay |
The last four are our suggestions based on the real places they copy, not confirmed fishing spots. We'll pin the real ones on launch day.
What fish are in GTA 6?
Rockstar told Game Informer the game has more than 170 animal species across land, air and sea. Bass are the only fish named for fishing so far. Sharks, rays, turtles and whales are in the water, and some animals are rated Rare, Discoverable or Legendary, with their identities kept secret. More in GTA 6 animals.
Can you hunt in GTA 6?
Yes. Mount Kalaga is the hunting ground: Rockstar's material mentions deer and mountain lions to hunt in the national park, and Rockstar calls it a "national landmark up against the state's northern border" with "hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals" in the backwoods. The Thrillbilly Mud Club and the Mount Kalaga peak are the landmarks mapped up there so far.
There's a hunting category on the map too. It goes live as soon as confirmed hunting areas are pinned.
Do you need a boat to fish?
Not necessarily. Jason and Cal fish from a boat in the trailers, and the Squalo is a fishing boat, but Rockstar hasn't said whether you can fish from piers or the shore. Boats are easy to find in the Keys: Brian's Marina and the Key Lento Marina Club are both pinned.
What else can you do on the water?
Jet skis, kayaking, airboats through the swamps, scuba diving in the Keys among giant turtles, and snorkelling. Our GTA 6 activities guide lists them all.
