GTA 6 Map vs GTA 5 Map
Updated · 3 min read
Short answer: GTA 6's map is about twice as big as GTA 5's, according to Rockstar, and reportedly three times Red Dead Redemption 2's. GTA 5 had one city (Los Santos) and one county (Blaine). GTA 6 has one much bigger city, Vice City, plus five more official regions with their own towns, from the Leonida Keys to Mount Kalaga.

Rockstar's Aaron Garbut told Game Informer the map is "around twice the size" of GTA 5's and "denser, more detailed, and more interactive". Neither game's area has been published officially, which is why the GTA 5 figures above are fan measurements. For the numbers in detail, see How big is the GTA 6 map?
Total area: older games are fan measurements; GTA 6 is Rockstar's 'around twice' GTA V.
Is Vice City bigger than Los Santos?
Reportedly, yes, about twice as big. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson is quoted (second-hand, by YouTuber TGG) as saying Vice City is about twice the size of Los Santos, and about 11 times bigger once you count the suburbs. On our map, Vice City has about half of every place found so far: the art deco hotels of Ocean Beach, downtown's Sahara Arena, the airport and the port.
What replaces Blaine County?
GTA 5 split its map into the city and the desert countryside of Blaine County. GTA 6 has five non-city regions, each with its own character in Rockstar's descriptions:
- Leonida Keys: "Life in this tropical archipelago isn't flashy but it's easy." Jason starts here.
- Grassrivers: wetlands where "the gators may be the most famous attraction".
- Port Gellhorn: "Leonida's forgotten coast", with cheap motels and shut-down attractions. Closest in mood to Sandy Shores.
- Ambrosia: sugar refinery country with a biker gang. Think Grapeseed with more industry.
- Mount Kalaga: a national park for hunting, fishing and off-roading, the Mount Chiliad of Leonida.
Is the GTA 6 map bigger than RDR2?
Yes. Rob Nelson's reported figure is three times RDR2's world, and the New York Times also reported "three times" RDR2's playable area. RDR2 is usually quoted at about 75 km², similar to GTA 5, though that figure is a fan estimate. RDR2's map is mostly wilderness, while Rockstar describes Leonida as denser than anything it has built.
Is there more water in GTA 6?
Almost certainly. Florida is surrounded by sea and full of lakes, rivers and swamps, and Leonida copies that: the Keys are islands, Grassrivers is wetland, and the north has Lake Leonida, the community's match for Lake Okeechobee. Rockstar's material includes jet skis, airboats, kayaks and scuba diving. That also means the total-area figure (including water) says less about how much there is to explore on foot than in GTA 5.
Can you see the whole GTA 6 map?
Not officially: Rockstar hasn't released a readable map. Our interactive map shows Leonida as mapped from official trailers and screenshots, and the GTA 6 map image has a single high-resolution picture you can download.
