GTA 6 vs the Original Vice City
Updated · 3 min read
Short answer: GTA 6's Vice City is the same city as 2002's GTA Vice City, Rockstar's Miami, brought to the present day and rebuilt at a much larger scale. Several old neighbourhood names are back: Ocean Beach, Washington Beach, Starfish Island and the Leaf Links golf course, and Little Havana is now Little Cuba. The original map was about 9 km² in total; GTA 6's Vice City is reportedly about twice the size of GTA 5's Los Santos on its own, and it's only one of six regions in the state of Leonida.

How much bigger is GTA 6's Vice City?
Much bigger. The whole map of the 2002 game is commonly measured at about 9.1 km² (a fan measurement; Rockstar doesn't publish sizes). For GTA 6, Rockstar North's Rob Nelson reportedly told previewers that Vice City alone is about twice the size of Los Santos, and about 11 times bigger counting its suburbs. On our map, Vice City holds about half of every place found so far, and the rest of Leonida (the Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga) comes on top. What's new compared with 2002?
- The present day. The original was set in 1986. Rockstar's line for GTA 6: "We're a long way from the '80s, but Vice City is still the sun and fun capital of America."
- A real downtown and Brickell. Skyscrapers, an arena on the bay and suspended freeways, matched to real Miami towers like the Brickell Arch.
- Neighbourhoods the original never had, such as the Wynwood-style Stockyard (home of Electric Fang Tattoo) and the Design District's double.
- A whole state around it. In 2002 Vice City was the entire game, two islands and a bay. In GTA 6 you can drive out to the Leonida Keys, the swamps of Grassrivers and the Gulf coast of Port Gellhorn.
Is Tommy Vercetti in GTA 6?
Nothing confirms it. The Vercetti Estate name on the community map is a nod to the original's hero, but GTA 6's story follows Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Rockstar hasn't announced any returning characters from the 2002 game.
Can I see both maps side by side?
Rockstar's original map art isn't ours to republish, but you can open GTA 6's Vice City on our map and compare it with your old paper map: Ocean Beach is still the strip of art deco hotels on the barrier island, Starfish Island still sits in the bay between the beach and the mainland, and the airport is still out to the west.
