GTA 6 map vs Florida

Leonida is Florida squeezed into a game map. Vice City sits where Miami is, the Leonida Keys trail off the south like the Florida Keys, Grassrivers fills the Everglades' spot, and the sugar country of Ambrosia surrounds a big lake like Lake Okeechobee. But the state is drastically shrunk and remixed: Port Gellhorn borrows from the Panhandle and Tampa Bay, and real places like Orlando's theme parks and the Space Coast aren't there as such. Below is the region-by-region comparison, using our map.

Is the GTA 6 map Florida?
It's based on Florida, not a copy of it. Game Informer calls Florida Leonida's real-world inspiration, and Rockstar describes Leonida as "the sunshine state". Rockstar's environment team named some places it researched: Panama City, Jacksonville, Ocala and small rural towns. It also said Leonida may not have "those exact locations" people expect, naming Disney World, Universal and the Space Coast. The team picks landscapes that suit the game rather than copying real ones.

What real Florida landmarks are in GTA 6?

How big is Leonida compared with Florida?
Tiny, as game worlds always are. Florida covers about 170,000 km². Fan measurements put Leonida's land at roughly 85 km², inside a bounding box of about 21 × 20 km. That's still around twice GTA V's map, which is what Rockstar says. See how big the GTA 6 map is.
Is Tampa, Orlando or Jacksonville in GTA 6?
Not as named cities, as far as Rockstar has shown. Tampa Bay's look turns up around Port Gellhorn, Jacksonville was one of the places Rockstar researched, and nothing like Orlando's theme parks has been shown. Rockstar's only big city is Vice City; the rest of Leonida is towns, swamps and countryside. Our guide to GTA 6 locations lists every town named so far.
What's different from Florida?
- A mountain. Mount Kalaga stands on the northern border; Florida's highest point is under 110 m.
- Order. Port Gellhorn mixes the Panhandle with Tampa Bay, so the west coast doesn't follow the real one.
- Islands. The leaked map shows more small islands to the west and north than Florida has.
- Names. Every brand, county and town is renamed: Miami-Dade becomes Vice-Dale, Georgia becomes Gloriana.
